Water damage restoration in Oakville
In Oakville, water damage often starts in the basement: storm water from the July 2024 downpours, a failed sump pump, or a pipe in an older home. Tell us what happened and we'll get back to you.
In Oakville, heavy summer storms and older ditch-drained streets are where basements flood
The storms of July 15 and 16, 2024 dropped about 60 mm and then another 52 mm on Oakville, and Halton Region later counted 104 basement floods in Oakville from those storms.
Some streets flood more than others. In the Saville area of Ward 1, between Bridge Road and Rebecca Street, built in the late 1950s and early 1960s with roadside ditches, Halton Region received 16 basement-flooding reports from 11 homes, 10 of them newer rebuilds, during four small storms between 2018 and 2023. The Region has planned sewer work there.
The creeks are managed too: the Morrison–Wedgewood diversion channel, built in 1967 and extended in 1969, carries water from north of the QEW west to Sixteen Mile Creek.
Who to call in Oakville: the Town for ditches and catch basins, Halton Region for sewers and basements
- A blocked catch basin, ditch, culvert or creek: the Town of Oakville.
- Water or sewage coming up through the basement floor drain, or a watermain break: Halton Region, on 311.
- Help paying for flood protection: the Town has no program of its own, but Halton Region subsidizes backwater valves, sump pumps and downspout disconnection. Check Halton's current terms.
